Petras 14 febrero 20111.rtf

Chury: Muy bien Petras.

Chury: Muy bien Petras.

Petras: Gracias a ustedes.

Neocon: GOP’s Best Bet is to Lose in 2012

American Third Position

Neocon: GOP's Best Bet is to Lose in 2012

Posted: 17 Feb 2011 03:16 AM PST

GOP's Best Bet is to Lose in 2012

That's what Noemie Emery says. She's a columnist for the Washington Examiner (one of the real columnists, not one of those who wrote in and said "hey let me cover the Schenectady UFO scene"). She's also a contributing editor of The Weekly Standard, the second most popular neocon magazine in America. So why does Noemie believe it's in the best interests of Republicans for their presidential candidate to lose in 2012?

Because white people are yesterday's news.

Because white people suck.

Because white people are evil.

Oh, she doesn't come out and put it quite that bluntly. But she makes it clear enough, that's for sure. The current GOP contenders are an underwhelming bunch of old white men. But if Republicans just wait til 2016, they'll be able to pick and choose from the new crop of politicians who were just elected in 2009 and 2010, and many of them are young, good looking and non-white:

Republicans' biggest problem in the 2012 presidential election isn't President Obama: It's time.

We don't know where Obama's poll numbers will be in 2012, but we do know that time is being quixotic: It has given the party an important election, with a collection of candidates one can call underwhelming; and a huge crop of superstars, turned up by the 2009 and 2010 elections, on the horizon and just out of reach. In themselves, they solve all the party's old problems: They belong to the moment; shaped by the crash, by the debt and by Obama's expansion of government; they bridge the Tea Party and the establishment; they are also young, and in some cases good-looking; they are brown-skinned, and female, Latino and Indian, from big states and swing states; they can rebrand, and expand, the party.

Sure, at the end she throws in a positive reference to Chris Christie, but that's just for window dressing. He's the exception to the general rule, which is that white politicians suck, and we need to replace them with black, Mexican and Hindu politicians if the GOP is going to have any hope of winning elections in the future.

Jewish leaders slam memorial day for expelled Germans

Jewish leaders slam memorial day for expelled Germans
February 17, 2011

BERLIN (JTA) -- Jewish leaders and political groups in Germany condemned a proposed national day of remembrance for the 12 million ethnic Germans expelled from Eastern Europe after World War II.

The proposal was to be heard in parliament Thursday.

Stephan Kramer, general secretary of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, told reporters that "One could almost call [the proposal] a kind of retaliation" against remembrance of the victims of German war crimes.

The governing political coalition parties -- the conservative Christian Democratic Union, its sister party the Christian Social Union, and the center-right Free Democratic Party -- proposed the annual memorial day for Aug. 5. On that day in 1950, the association of Germans from the annexed regions signed a Charter of German Expellees in which they "renounce revenge and retaliation."

According to news reports, the parties argued that the memorial day would not dissociate the expulsion of ethnic Germans from German responsibility for the war and for war crimes, but they said it was time that the stigmatization in Germany of expellees and their descendants come to an end.

Opposition political leaders and a group of historians have condemned the proposal as revisionist and avoiding German guilt.

Kramer said such a memorial day could have a "catastrophic effect" on Germany's image abroad.

The president of the League of German Expellees, Erika Steinbach, told Deutsche Welle that the 1950 charter was about the expellees "overcoming their own justified resentment to say that they wanted to look forward and bring about a peaceful coexistence in Europe."

She said she expected "the sympathy of the German state ... for the particular fate of a substantial part of the German people."

Elan Steinberg, vice president of the American Gathering of Holocaust Survivors and their Descendants, called the proposal "a disgraceful distortion of history and
an abuse of truth and memory."

"In reality, ethnic Germans who colonized Eastern Europe during World War II were the unbridled instruments of the brutal Nazi plans for the conquest and plunder of Europe. They served as agents of an evil design," Steinberg said in a statement.

"To link their commemoration to the 1950 Charter of Expellees, which expresses no contrition for the victims of the Nazis, mocks the memory of all who were brutalized by the Hitler regime, Jew and non-Jew," he said.

"I have a number on my arm and they dare to call me an anti-Semite?"

Holocaust survivor's planned talk at mosque angers Sacramento Jewish leaders - Sacramento Living - Sacramento Food and Wine, Home, Health | Sacramento Bee -- from via SacConnect.us

Published: Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2011

Excerpt:

Meyer, in an exclusive interview with The Bee, said he survived 12 years under Hitler and 10 months in Auschwitz.

"I have a number on my arm and they dare to call me an anti-Semite?" he said.

Because he was not allowed to attend high school in Nazi Germany, Meyer said, "I can identify with those Palestinians who undergo slow-motion genocide when they are not allowed to go to their schools," which have been bombed.

"Nearly all Jewish religious organizations in the world have mixed up Judaism – which is universal, humanistic and friendly to anybody – with Zionism," said Meyer, who defined Zionism as an ideology based on a well-defined Arab enemy that must be destroyed.

Memo from Harvey Taylor:

From: hataylor2003 <hataylor2003@yahoo.com>
Date: Fri, Feb 18, 2011 at 2:18 AM

I attended this meeting along with two other revisionists. Nothing appeared in the press the following day which explains the Sacramento Bee. Mr. Meyer's talk was an emotional and accurate indictment of Zionism. I took my video camera but was told that video cameras had to be approved. meyer mentioned Sand's recent book, "The Invention of the Jewish People". A factual story about his address could not be published in the Bee which is a Zionist rag. During the recent Egyptian revolution we were treated to several Jewish victim, Auschwitz, Gas chamber stories in addition to the announcement that the US taxpayer would subsidize the Auschwitz Disneyland factory for brainwashing the ignorant.

I submitted the following two questions to Mr. Meyer via the organizers:

1) Did you personally see the Auschwitz gas chamber?

2) Why does Elie Weisel not have a number tatooed on his arm?

Neither question was addressed by Mr. Meyer.

AAUP Proposes New Protections for Politically Controversial Academics

The Chronicle of Higher Education

February 18, 2011
AAUP Proposes New Protections for Politically Controversial Academics

By Peter Schmidt

Washington

Responding to recent incidents in which colleges took action against scholars whose views had generated public controversy, the American Association of University Professors is urging academe to do more to shield faculty members from attacks on their jobs driven by pressure from advocacy groups.

A new report issued by the association today proposes several new steps for colleges and their faculties to take to ensure that decisions related to instructional personnel are not unduly influenced by political pressure.

Among its recommendations, the report calls for colleges to generally disregard complaints about faculty members' statements coming from outsiders—or even on-campus student groups objecting to statements heard secondhand rather than in the classroom—in making judgments related to the faculty members' performance.

The report also calls for colleges to put any compelling reasons for a faculty member's dismissal in writing, and for the members of committees that evaluate faculty members to be given a chance to defend themselves if publicly criticized.

In a news release issued today, the AAUP said the fundamental principle underlying the report "is that all academic personnel decisions, including new appointments and the renewal of appointments, should rest on factors that demonstrably pertain to the effective performance of the academic's professional responsibilities. Political restrictions on academic expression must not be countenanced—even when many faculty members support or acquiesce in them."

Who Speaks for Students?

The AAUP is inviting comment on the report, drafted by a subcommittee established to look at politically controversial academic personnel decisions, and the document remains subject to revision and to formal approval by the association's governing council. But Cary Nelson, president of the AAUP, said on Thursday that the final report is likely to closely resemble the current draft, and that his organization is urging colleges to begin following the report's recommendations now.

One prominent critic of perceived ideological bias among college faculty members has already expressed objections to one of the report's key recommendations. David Horowitz, the founder of Students for Academic Freedom and an advocate of state legislation intended to protect college students from political indoctrination in college classrooms, took issue Thursday with the report's call for colleges to give little weight to those complaints about faculty members' classroom statements that come from student political organizations and not students actually in the class.

The guideline, Mr. Horowitz said, presumes students will "step up and confront" the faculty members who hold considerable power over them, which "will never happen."

"Once again," Mr. Horowitz said, "the AAUP wants professors to be unaccountable to anyone but themselves."

Spin Cycles

Mr. Nelson said the AAUP's leadership felt compelled to devise new protections for academic freedom because cable television, blogs, e-mail lists, and other new forms of electronic communication "are presenting us with a new reality" in which, virtually overnight, colleges can come under intense outside pressure to take action against faculty members with controversial views.

"I don't think higher education has faced this level of public feedback and participation before," Mr. Nelson said.

In addition to making it easier to mount campaigns against faculty members, changes in how people communicate have also put faculty members under pressure to publicly express their ideas in ways that leave them open to charges they have offended people or otherwise engaged in rhetorical excess. The report says, "Today, when the sound bite is more readily heard than the more thoughtful dissertation and intemperate speech is commonplace, strong language may be more necessary for those seeking a hearing for controversial views." Consideration of the manner in which faculty members express their views, the report argues, "is rarely appropriate to an assessment of academic fitness."

Among other reasons cited for issuing the new guidance, the report says, the AAUP is alarmed by the large share of recent controversies over academic speech that have involved adjunct faculty members, who can be dismissed relatively easily because they lack the same due-process rights as their tenured and tenure-track colleagues. Faculty members who have tenure have an obligation "to safeguard the rights of those who do not," the report says.

In its list of principles that should guide personnel decisions surrounded by political controversy, the report says:

  • In dealing with allegations that a faculty member has engaged in indoctrination in the classroom, colleges should ignore the political views of the accused and consider only whether that faculty member used dishonest tactics to deceive students.
  • Administrators should not discipline a faculty member for any off-campus statement that the faculty member could freely make on the campus.
  • If faculty members involved in the early stages of the review of a colleague's actions believe that the process is moving forward too quickly or the outcome is predetermined, they should make their views known and call for the process to be postponed "until it can occur free of undue political constraints," or, at the very least, without haste and with necessary procedural safeguards.
